What Are The Skincare Benefits Of Mushrooms?

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

Do mushrooms make your skin glow?

Haven't heard of Snow Mushroom? I hadn't either. To me mushrooms belong in chicken marsala or stir fry or stuffed... but in skincare? I first heard about mushrooms in skin care when I was researching K-beauty (Korean skincare products) for another post. I asked several friends and family members if they had heard of skincare with mushrooms. None had. The more I researched for my blog about its benefits the more it became a must-try. Move over hyaluronic acid, you have competition with the beauty mushroom!

Are mushrooms good for your skin?

Yes. Mushrooms have long been common in Asian skincare and finally have made it's way to the U.S. Fortunately for us, the skincare lines are doing the research for you and I and formulating mushroom facial cream and serum. The snow mushroom holds 450x its weight in water, so it helps to plump our skin. The chaga mushroom is a protecting antioxidant, lessens redness and restores our skin barrier. The reishi mushroom is a powerful anti-irritant that helps soothe skin. And, the shiitake mushroom brightens (fades dark spots) and evens out skin tone. Mushrooms contain omega fatty acids and ceramides which help build up the skin’s moisture by preventing water loss to keep our skin plump. Mushroom beauty also reduces hyper-pigmentation and has anti-inflammatory properties. So, it's an anti-aging superfood for your face.

I used and came to appreciate several mushroom products I was given samples of and working on using up my full product of the Volition serum that I use in my nighttime routine. The mushroom formulations were like a superfood on my face, minimized my pores and held water so well that my skin was visibly plumper. The mushroom benefits truly made their mark on my face.
